Smile Project

The Smile Project provides life altering, reconstructive surgeries and related healthcare services to impoverished children.

The Smile Project is a collaborative effort of Cafesjian Family Foundation, Fund for Armenian Relief, Arabkir Medical Center and Hand in Hand Foundation (Karabagh). The Smile Project was organized to address the Cleft lip and Cleft palate issue in Armenia and Karabagh.

The project works in partnership with the Smile Network International, a global non-profit humanitarian organization that provides life altering reconstructive surgeries and related healthcare services to impoverished children and young adults in developing countries.  The project began in October of 2008, with the goal of conducting over 50 surgeries that year to repair cleft lip/ palate. The project is endorsed by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Health of Nagorno Karabagh.

Hand in Hand acts as project liaison in Karabagh, conducting pre-screenings and identifying potential patients.

The project was successfully launched with strong media attention.  A broad PR campaign including Press-Conferences, News Releases, Television Coverage spanning Armenia TV, EuroNews/ArmNews and CNN were incorporated.
